本书通过对瑞典国家档案馆藏斯文·赫定档案进行系统整理，首次刊布了大量与中国西北有关的档案史料，翔实地展现了1927—1933年瑞典探险家、地理学家斯文·赫定与中国学术团体协会合作组建的近代第一个中外平等合作的中国西北科学考察团体—西北科学考查团的历史和贡献。
