在气候环境变化加速、地区冲突和文化遗产面临威胁的时代，跨大陆交流和丝路文明联盟（ATES）为跨学科、跨区域研究提供了一个及时而雄心勃勃的方案。ATES科学计划（2025-2030 年）将促进丝绸之路气候环境变化与文明演变的了解，并提供了以科学知识为基础的气候变化应对策略，以提高丝绸之路沿线国家和社会的韧性。ATES科学计划提供了一个合作研究框架，用于探索环境动态、社会创新和跨大陆交流是如何在几千年间影响人类文明发展的。ATES的核心任务是探索环境变化与丝绸之路文明发展之间的相互作用。它利用考古、遗传基因、气候、历史和语言等研究手段，促进自然科学、社会科学和人文科学的跨学科研究，支持以科学知识为基础的战略，促进丝绸之路地区的可持续发展和气候变化适应能力。
